This is super annoying. I found a potential solution! If you're having the issue where attempting to install the driver manually and NOT through GeForce Experience gives you the error "The standard Nvidia graphics driver is not compatible with this geforce experience download driver failed of Windows", then you can download and install the Hotfix Driver Specifically, you should download and install the DCH version of the driver.
This version was able to install on my system, and it also installed GeForce Experience that now works and recognizes the updated driver.
